A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Friday evening on Church Road in Lansdale has died, North Penn Now has learned.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Church Road and Station Square Boulevard at 8:48 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, for a report of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle. Dispatch radio traffic indicated a male victim was lying unconscious in the roadway, and first responders were performing CPR.

The pedestrian was initially transported from the scene via ambulance in critical condition with what police described as “life-threatening” injuries. In a follow-up Saturday morning, Lansdale Borough Police Chief Mike Trail confirmed that the victim died overnight.

“Sadly, the victim from last evening’s [crash] died of his injuries,” Trail said.

The victim’s identity is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

Church Road was closed for several hours between the Pennbrook Train Station and Station Square Boulevard as first responders worked to process and clear the scene. Lansdale Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Upper Gwynedd Police Department, VMSC Emergency Medical Services, and area fire police.

The driver of the striking vehicle — described as a dark-colored Mazda SUV — remained on scene and was cooperating with police, Trail said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lansdale Borough Police Department and the North Penn Regional Crash Investigation Team.

“Lansdale Police will provide further updates as warranted,” Trail said, adding a full media will not likely come until sometime Tuesday.
